Taxis

Taxis are a means of rapid transportation to and from cities. The official taxis in Costa Rica are those that are identified with the color red with a license in the form of yellow triangular shield painted on their doors. When you take a taxi, verify that it is equipped with your fare meters and that they work correctly .
In the main airports you can find taxi services, with a little more cost per kilometer in relation to those that circulate around the city.
Most visitors staying in San Jose will opt for a taxi, since they are plentiful and reasonably priced (compared to other major cities in more developed countries), and the fact that San Jose is a relatively little. Always notify the driver of your destination and get a fare from him before boarding
Note: the only legal taxis are RED with a yellow triangle on the side. All other local taxis are illegal and probably not insured to carry passengers. If the traffic police stops the “pirate” taxi, you and your luggage can be on the side of the road . Legal taxis must have a “Maria” (taximeter), although fixed rates are sometimes better than “María”.
