Reserve Curi Cancha
The word “Curi-Cancha” comes from the Inca culture which means “Golden Enclosure”. It’s a wildlife refuge since 1997. This reserve is open to tourists and visitors. It is located in the Arenal-Tempisque area in the heart of Monteverde. In this area 83 hectares of 50% virgin forest, 45% secondary forest, and 5% grassland are protected. Sustainable practices designed to maintain the reserve are developed in an ideal habitat for the animals. Curi-Cancha is the ideal place for birdwatchers, the Quetzal, the Bellbird, the Bobo bird, the orange-bellied Trogon, and others can be seen in this area that houses more than 200 species of birds.
