Juan Santamaría Historical and Cultural Museum (Street 2 Obispo Tristán and avenue 1 Bernardo Soto Alfaro, one block north of Central Park, Alajuela, San Jose) – the collections of this museum are composed of materials related to historical aspects of the Central American War fought against the filibuster invaders between 1856-1857: visitors can see portraits of oil paintings, documents, weapons and various objects linked to this heroic feat. Hours: from 10:00 a.m. at 6:00 p.m. (Tuesday to Sunday) (closed on Mondays). Free pass
