Carara National Park

Carara National Park (highway 34, Carretera Costanera, Carara): this park, located on the Pacific coast (two hours from San José, along the highway between the city of Puntarenas and Jaco Beach), is unique because the Amazonian and Mesoamerican ecosystems converge here to form a distinct biological reserve, where the climates of the dry North Pacific meet the humid southern coast. This national park has several ecosystems, such as marshes, lagoons and gallery forests. With a fantastic variety of wildlife at your fingertips, visiting this park makes for an unforgettable family trip. Among the wild animals that live here, there are monkeys, crocodiles, armadillos, peccaries, waterfowl, opossums, sloths, boas, aouti, kinkajou, tayra, margay cats, jaguars, white-tailed deer and ozelots, along with a wide variety of birds and other reptiles, and amphibians. Hours: 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Price of the entrance: $ 10 per person
